Mine chunked up quickly from but then evened out and stabilized to a solid Bengal mix kitty weight.Mission: United Animal Friends is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue organization. Address the psychological issue first and give lots of reassurances. Just slow him down as much as you can so it takes up more time in his day.ĭon't worry about kitty getting fat quite yet. My main goal was to let him know he would have food for sure and would never go without. And the rule was he stayed on the floor and not pawing at my leg for it. Knowing super fatty yummies are coming revved him up at first but then he calmed down after a month or so. Sometimes he gets souped up wet food too when but not always. Cats can't produce their own fatty acids- it needs to come from food. I had also started sharing my breakfast meat in the morning, so he gets a few crumbs of fatty bacon, sausage or a finger width of hamburger to chew. The timing of that coincided with adding bente-bac probiotics and bulletproof mct oil - after awhile my greedy guts seemed to slow down noticeably after I added some of this to his food. He's waiting for wet food in the morning and evening but not crying and whining for it as much. Hope it gets better.I feed him once in the morning and once in the evening.I've had him over a year now and he's only just started to chill out. If it helps I use wellness wet and different dry foods - right now wild blue dry. Or he doesn't LOVE it as much ( another approach- food they like to eat and can be reasonable about but do not love, thus scarf down too quickly. I leave dry food out but he's calmer about dry food. Try a slow feeder like stimulo cat feeder or north mate food bowl so he doesn't throw up. I'm repeating my experience (plus adding a little new info ) from the other thread, hope it's ok. Has anyone ever had a problem like this with their cat? We figured it might be a temporary stray thing that he'd loose once he realized he had a steady source of food but six months later he's still a crazy food hound. In fact, we even switched his food from a high-protein diet to a 'natural diet' because it meant he would be able to eat more with fewer calories so he could have a full stomach most of the day and still maintain his weight. We have never fed him 'people food.' We know that he's getting plenty to eat. Sometimes I'll absent-minded chew on a non-edible food item like the end of a pen and suddenly he will NEED to try to eat the pen too. If we try to hold the food out of his reach he will attempt to climb to it or pull the food down by your arm. He literally doesn't even chew unless the food isn't bite-sized. It doesn't matter what food it is because he eats it so fast he never even tastes it. Whenever he sees us putting in our mouths he HAS to eat. Now we keep the food in the laundry room behind a closed door. Then we put the bag in a cabinet, which worked for a while until he figured out how to pull open the door. He had gnawed through the plastic and was eating from the innards within fifteen minutes or so. We knew it was bad when brought down a bag of unopened cat food and sat it next to the stairs. The only problem is he's an incessant food hound. He's friendly to everybody that walks in, he loves to be around you whether it's just hanging or cuddling, he loves to play, he's vocal in a cute way but never yowls and he's quite intelligent. He's pretty young the vet says he's a little over a year old. My fiance and I ended up with a stray cat over the summer and named him Kizzy.
